Junior Soccer League (JSL) is the first in the country to be given the FA's flagship Charter Standard League award for a league offering 4/5 a side football, which is viewed by many experts to be the best format of the game to develop young footballers of the future.

Why 4v4?
4v4 is the optimum number for learning in small sided games. It has all of the elements of the full size game (depth, width and height) without any confusing duplication. In a football match children have the option to pass the ball forwards, square or backwards. 4v4 means that everyone is involved. Not only do the children get more touches of the ball, they are more mentally involved. The action is faster and there are no hiding places. This facilitates quicker learning and development of positional awareness. With the 4v4 format, players learn the "diamond" shape, which is the basic shape that allows players to find options in every direction. |
For the very youngest age group of U6s, JSL provide a unique opportunity to fast track their development in the absolute best environment, offering teams a venue to compete in a series of 4v4 friendly games, utilising a "fly goalkeeper" that can also double as an outfield player. As the children move into U7s, U8s & U9s we allow the use of an additional player to act as a permanent goalkeeper. The 4v4 diamond is still very much the focus of what we promote & we call this game format 4v4+GK (goalkeeper).
