Junior Soccer League (JSL) formed in May 2010.  Our first event, a pilot summer league competition run from a central venue in Oldham, Greater Manchester, provided an opportunity for over 200 young children, with or without a club team, to participate in football within a modern, welcoming, age appropriate environment based on friendship, respect, sportsmanship, team work, confidence and goal achievement.

Following the inaugural summer league, a development plan quickly evolved with the aim of creating a child centred environment, one in which a child was free to enjoy, learn, practice and develop their football skills without having to contend with the burden of  expectation, attention and scrutiny of significant others.

JSL adopted a very simple slogan.... “Let’s Play” which expressed a simple belief that in order for the next generation to grow up healthy, balanced and able to benefit from their involvement in football, we must let children play, without fear.

Fear is everywhere in football in this country, fear of losing, fear of change, fear that the next coach knows more than you and the fear of giving control on the pitch to the kids. That needs to change.

From Day 1, JSL set about establishing a child centred environment, led by a league competition and supported with age appropriate coaching programs. The aim was simple, to involve and engage children in football within a modern environment that would develop them as players, and more importantly as young people.

This approach resulted in FA Charter Standard League status, The FA's flagship award for a League, within 6 months of our conception. We can also boast to having established a place in national football history by becoming the very first in the country to receive the FA's top award for a league offering 4/5 a side football.

Four very successful years on, we can claim to be ahead of our time, with The FA recently outlining plans in 2013 that will see all junior leagues throughout the country convert to this development focused format for U7s & U8s by the 2013/14 season.

With a long term development plan firmly in place and gathering pace, we are confident of continued success.

Our aim is put in place the framework for a child to follow their dreams, whatever they may be. In doing so, we hope to play a part in helping  to create a generation of footballers who play with creativity and without fear, who solve their own problems on the pitch, and who enjoy the game. Footballers who play to win, instead of losing through fear.
